Live in Playas del Coco
Playas del Coco is the largest and most built-up beach town on the northern Pacific coast — and for buyers, that distinction matters. It's 35 minutes from Liberia's Guanacaste Airport (LIR), which keeps adding direct routes from North America and is adding a private jet terminal. Most coastal towns in Costa Rica are beautiful but remote. Coco is neither remote nor a compromise.
The town has what day-to-day life actually requires: multiple supermarkets, a PriceSmart, pharmacies, hardware stores, banks, bilingual doctors and dentists, and mechanics who work on foreign-plated vehicles without drama. Tour operators run fishing charters, diving trips, and day excursions to Rincon de la Vieja directly from the marina. The Sunday market draws a mix of locals and expats year-round.
The beaches in Coco proper are calm and good for swimming. The ones nearby are better still — Playa Ocotal is ten minutes south, Playa Hermosa is fifteen minutes north, and Playa Penca and Playa Buena are both within easy reach. Dining and nightlife are concentrated along the main strip and the waterfront: a real range from casual sodas to proper restaurants, with enough turnover that there's always somewhere new.
For buyers who want a genuine beach lifestyle without giving up infrastructure, Playas del Coco is the answer on this coast.
